Do you feel like your mind is cluttered?! Do you feel like you are on overdrive most of the time?! A constant white noise that isn’t letting up, it just keeps getting louder… AND LOUDER with chaos? Your brain may be begging you for some extra space to breathe. Just like cleaning out our cabinets, our minds could use some decluttering too! This week we are going to take space to breathe and help declutter your mind. Choose a few or all of these ideas and try them out this week.
- Breathe. So simple but yet so effective. Even just taking a minute to focus on your breathing can make a huge difference. I hesitate to use the word “mediate” because most of us think only hippies do that… But really, focusing on your breathing is pretty much the same thing as meditation. So don’t be scared, give it a try and you may be surprised by the difference it can make.
- Empty it. Let’s make some extra space this week. Did you know people that have a cluttered work space are less efficient and more frustrated?! Let’s do your mind a favor and find a drawer or cabinet in your home and empty it. And keep it empty! You will be amazed at how nice it is to see space.. big or small. It’s contagious and as you make an empty space, you and your brain will crave more.
- Write it down. If you have so many thoughts going through your mind, take moment and write them down. Next time your head hits the pillow with a million things running through it, get them out of your mind and on that paper. This will keep your head from being filled with everything you need to do and remember.
- Talk. Find a trusted family member or friend to talk to. When you do this, it takes a load off your shoulders. When you express your emotions, just saying them out load can make you feel better! So try it!
- Be Decisive. A professional organizer, Scott Roewer, said, “clutter is simply delayed decisions.” When you put off making decisions over and over, your brain becomes overwhelmed and cluttered. What ever is on your mind, make a decision and go with it.
- Set Priorities. A famous poet Bill Copeland said it perfectly, “the trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score.” Be proactive and take charge of your life. It always feels good knowing where you’re going and how to get there! So set your goals and priorities and go chase those dreams!
I hope these tips help you free up some space in your mind and that loud chaos quiets down. If you have any other cluttered thoughts or emotions that are catching dust in your mental closet, see that clutter for what it is and get it out for good!
