How to make Chinese Chicken Salad Recipe
My favorite kind of lettuce to use for this salad is romaine lettuce. You can try it with different types of lettuce to see what you like but romaine lettuce really compliments the flavor of this salad. You will need about 4 heads of romaine lettuce. I get mine my romaine lettuce at Costco.
Once the lettuce is all cut up, put it in a large bowl. Dice 4 green onions and add them to the lettuce in the bowl. Put the bowl of lettuce in the fridge. It helps make the lettuce extra crispy.
The remaining ingredients that need to be prepped are really just the chicken and the dressing.
While the lettuce is in the fridge, start boiling the 4 chicken breasts. If you need to, you can use canned chicken! It’s a great way to use up food storage or save time if you’re crunched! Dice chicken once it is done being boiled (chicken breasts take about 15-20 minutes to cook when boiling them.)
Next is the dressing. It’s so easy and only a few ingredients. If you have a dressing container that you can just shake, that is ideal. If not, that’s totally fine too! For years I just added the ingredients to a bowl and would stir it until it was all mixed together and the sugar is dissolved.
Last, the noodles on top. Our favorite is to use the Chinese noodles. It really gives it great flavor. You can also use ramen noodles. They both taste great and might just be personal preference. Ramen noodles might be something you have in your food storage so that would be a great way to rotate your food storage.
Once you mix the dressing together, pour the dressing on the salad. Add the chicken and toss that salad. Add the Chinese noodles on top.
Can I make this recipe ahead of time?
Yes! You can make the dressing, cook the chicken and have it cut up, and even cut the lettuce. I wouldn’t mix the dressing in the salad until you are ready to eat it. I also wouldn’t cut the lettuce more than 24 hours before. If you do cut the lettuce before, add a little bit of water and cover it with Saran Wrap.
How long does the Chinese Chicken Salad last in the fridge?
Once the dressing is on the lettuce, it doesn’t last very long. I would try and eat it the day you make it.
Can Chinese Chicken Salad be frozen?
I wouldn’t suggest freezing Chinese Chicken Salad. It gets really soggy once its thawed. You can always share it with your friends if you can’t finish your leftovers.
What should I serve with this Salad?
Of course we can’t leave out dessert! Here are a few of my favorite dessert recipes that are great with Chinese Chicken Salad or for any BBQ/family get together party:
