Spring Break Ideas on a BUDGET- Kid Approved! My kids are counting down the DAYS until Spring Break! Since we’re not planning a big Disney trip or cruise to Hawaii, I asked them to get creative and write down some SUPER fun stuff we could do at home or in our city! My kids range from 6-13. I obviously added some thoughts on how to pull it all off, but their ideas are spot on!

1-Pizza and a Movie Night
This idea NEVER gets old with kids! My kids would be happy watch a movie and eat pizza every night of their lives! To make it a little extra special, have the pizza delivered if you usually pick up. Better yet, make your own pizzas and treats! Let the kids put ALL the blankets and pillows in the family room and make the ultimate birds nest while they watch some fun movies. If your weather allows for it, get a projector and a sheet and make your own backyard theater! Invite some friends!
What are some fun Spring Break Ideas for Families?
2-Camping
Nothing creates better memories than a family camping trip! It’s a lot of work, but it’s a great getaway that can be catered to your family’s dynamic and needs. If weather doesn’t permit, make a fire and roast hot dogs and s’mores in the backyard. Let the kids build a fort/tent for sleeping in the house.
3-Backyard Games & Night Games
There’s so much fun to be had in the comfort of your backyard! Invite your neighbors and friends to come over to have water fights, play tag, jump on the tramp, play ghost in the graveyard, run through sprinklers, slip n’ slide, play catch with the dog and more! Let your kids’ imaginations run wild!
4-Hotel with pool
Some people refer to this as a staycation. Get a hotel room somewhere nearby and pretend like you’re on a family vacation! You’ll have to do some research to keep this one within budget, but the whole day’s activities will be taken care of if there’s a pool! Don’t forget your goggles!

5-Olympic games with family, friends or neighbors
This is one of my favorites! Basketball, Corn Hole, Long Jump, Foot Race, Obstacle Course, Volleyball (water balloon), Horseshoes… The ideas are endless! Make teams (countries), design flags, buy some cheap medals and have a blast with friends, neighbors, cousins and whoever else! The more the merrier!

6-Family Project
Let your kids be the photographers and embark in a Family photo shoot. You might be surprised at how great some of the photos turn out! Make a cool photo album of all your Spring Break Adventures! You could also create a Family painting, build a tree house/fort, plant a garden and let the kids be in charge of their own areas, or even create a Family crest.
7-College or Professional Sporting Event
If you live near a college or pro sports arena, find some tickets and take the family! Often times last minute tickets are cheap on sites such as craigslist. Go BLUE!
8-Thrifting
This is such a fun adventure! It’s like finding a diamond in the rough when you find something great! Look for local garage sales or stores like Goodwill, Savers or Deseret Industries. Give the kids a little money and see who can find the coolest treasure!
9-Arcade/Laser tag
Indoor fun centers are always a win, rain or shine! Many fun centers reward a good report card with extra tokens. Definitely worth looking into!

10-Mani Pedi’s
Who doesn’t love a little pampering?! Even the boys enjoy a nice foot soak and massage 🙂 . Many nail spas do $5 nail painting for kids. Such a bargain!

11-Cookout
Cross your fingers for good weather! Invite your favorite people and make sure they bring something tasty! If you want to REALLY make things exciting, throw in some yard games and great music. Looking for THE. BEST. STEAKS? Look no further.
12-Nature Day
Get out and enjoy the mountains, the woods, the water or the park! Embark on a day hike or set up a fun scavenger hunt for the kids! They’ll love searching and collecting for all things nature.
13-Rec Center
Most cities have a recreation center that offers swimming, ice skating, basketball, racquetball, climbing walls and more. If you have a pass, you’re golden. If not, it’s usually only a few bucks per person if you’re a local.
14-Drive In
The Drive In Movie! Every kid MUST experience this at some point (preferably with the fam and not a date 😉 )! Load the car with blankets, food, chairs and enjoy a late night watching the show (or two if you’re die hards).

15-Bake off
With the growing popularity of baking shows on TV, it’s no wonder that “cupcake wars” and “bake-offs” have become such an at-home hit! Put the kids in teams and have at it! Prepare for a mess 🙂 This is my favorite frosting kit!
16-Zoo
Everybody likes the Zoo! Young and old! Spring is baby animal season so really, an ideal time for a zoo visit! Many zoo’s have fun programs, train rides, splash pads and delicious restaurants. You can definitely make a day of it!
17-Free Factory Tour
In Utah we have a chocolate factory called Mrs. Cavanaughs. They offer free scheduled tours and even offer samples! So awesome! Other fun factories to visit are: creameries, cheese factories, bakeries, candy factories and more! Do a Google search to see what factory tours are in your area.
18-Trampoline or Bounce House Park
Trampoline Parks and Inflatable Parks are popping up everywhere these days. Let the kids absolutely exhaust themselves as the bounce the day away. If there isn’t a bounce park in your area, rent an inflatable for the day! Combine this activity with your cookout and you’ll have a day for the books.

It might be a bit of a drive to get to a National Park, but a visit to one of nature’s greatest beauties is ALWAYS worth your time. Let your kids experience something totally magical!
20-Museum
There are SO many different types of museums! Find one that’s age appropriate for your children and blow their minds with some cool, new stuff! Such a great learning experience too!

21-Make Bubbles, Play Dough, Slime, or other Messy Crafts!
Crafts can be messy and time consuming, but plan in advance to endure the craziness. Try and relax and have some fun with the kids! If you’re lucky, the weather will be nice enough to do some crafting outside! This is a great kit for HUGE BUBBLES!
22-Explore your City or a Cool City Nearby
Have you ever toured your city and discovered all the interesting things it has to offer?! There are plenty of websites and articles listing all the greatest things every city has to offer. Fun restaurants, cool historical sites, awesome art displays and the most interesting shops!
23-Sign up for a Fun Race
Color races and fun runs have become SUPER popular over the last decade. If you check online, you’re bound to find one your whole family could enter. Now just cross your fingers it’s happening during Spring Break! Make sure and take TONS of pictures!
