How do we motivate our kids? We ALL wish kids were born with individual manuals. Here are 6 quick tips on how to motivate kids. After 17 years of teaching kids I have learned a lot about how to motivate them to accomplish goals. Below you will find 6 quick tips to motivate kids.
LOVE – Show them love. No matter what! Everyone responds postivly from love. Try to learn your child’s individual “love lanuage”, you know, physical love like a hug. Words of affirmation. Gifts. Everyone has a “love language” so what your child’s is.
1. And I LIVE by this. BE INSPIRING
You know that saying “teach by example”? This is definitely a time do to that. Inspire your kids to do well by your own actions. Try not to push them do too well.
2. Teach them ACCOUNTABILITY.
I know this is hard. It’s hard for me too. But let your kid make their own choices and live with that choice. Good or bad. This will MOTIVATE them to make the right choices just by living their own life.
3. Your child is not YOU so see what motivates THEM
Talk to them one on one. What do they want to become? What goals do they have? When we see our kids as separate people we help them achieve their goals.
4. Let them see the “Bigger Picture”.
I always say this to my kids and dance kids. Let’s take this situation and look at the bigger picture.
5. Praising the RIGHT way.
Praise them for their effort not outcome. Focus on encouragement instead of judgement. Make your praise descriptive. Instead of saying “you were awesome at the baseball game.” Try “you were awesome when you ran to first base so fast.”
6. Do everything with love.
If they know you have their best interest heart they will trust you. Love them!
I made a printable for you to keep. Remeber everything is better when it’s done with LOVE!
